INTERNSHIP EXCHANGE EXPERIENCE (IEXX)
The Department of Architecture / School of Architecture & Design / University of Louisiana at Lafayette
The Internship Exchange Experience is a pilot initiative to enhance architectural education with work experience. Guided by the IEXX Coordinator, undergraduate architectural studies at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette gain real-world paid internship experience, log Architectural Experience Program (AXP) hours, and earn studio course credit. The IEXX initiative collaborates with local professional to create positive, rigorous, and transformative educational experience during the final sequence of undergraduate architectural studio coursework.
This past year we had 7 students participate in the IEXX program, below we have gathered several quotes and reflections on their experiences. Special Thanks to Abel + Crozier Southwest Architects (ACSW), Angelle Architects, d+b architecture, emerymcclure architecture, EnvironMental Design, and Sam Rue Architect for participating and fostering this program.

“As an intern at Angelle Architects, I was able to apply the knowledge I have gained from all of the courses I have taken over the past 3.5 years while gaining real life work experience. Being a part of the Internship Exchange Experience this past semester has been a wonderful opportunity that I’m thankful to have been a participant in.”

“After working as an architecture intern this semester, I have gained an experience that I am profoundly thankful for. I was pushed out of my comfort zone and grown substantially not only as a student but also as an employee. I am beyond excited to continue my education and in turn further my career!”

“While working for ACSW, I’ve experienced not only the design side of a firm, but the business side of architecture as well. Through visited job sights, attending client meetings, and assisting the office manager I’ve learned about the real issues that can effect a project, and how to solve them through a designers point of view.”

"My experience with EnvironMental Design has been a blessing and inspiration to my design process. I cannot wait to apply what I've gained into my own practice, and serve my community in such a way that honors the example Mr. Cazayoux has set."

“My IEXX experience was beyond what I could have hoped it would have been- I've grown so much as a worker, but also as a designer because of this opportunity and for that, I am grateful to emerymcclure architecture. They’re such a supportive and encouraging team of designers and the lessons I've learned from them will be applied in many aspects of my life.”
