Minou: Modular Interior Cat Environments
My Senior Capstone was centered around the idea of creating a new kind of cat tree that would better fit into a multitude of home environments than the typical carpeted trees that are found in many homes. To best accommodate as many interior styles as possible, my modular cat environment features a classic, sleek, minimal structure of interlocking box units that are customizable to each specific pet owners needs and wants. There is an endless array of color choices, making it fit seamlessly into already established home décor, along with this, various heights can be chosen depending on how much space is available in one’s home. In addition, there are two pathway options from which to choose. The full-access path gives cats the ability to traverse between all boxes, while the limited-access path only allows travel through certain boxes. The limited-access path option creates multi-use opportunities for the extra units, such as: bookshelf capabilities, storage space, and organizational cubes just to name a few. The interlocking nature of the shelves holds each one securely in place, making it impossible to be knocked over by even the most rambunctious feline. The main goal in creating Minou was to rethink cat trees, how they interact with our home environments, and to make them better suited for more homes.
